This policy covers SoundMyText on every platform: the website and the
web app at soundmytext.com, and the apps for iPhone and iPad, Android,
macOS and Windows.
The short version
We keep what SoundMyText needs to work: your documents, a record of
your device and, if you sign in, your account. To read documents aloud
we send their text to speech services. Payments go through Stripe or
your app store. The website’s own pages use Google Analytics only if
you agree. There is no advertising, and we never sell data.
Your documents
The documents you add are stored on our server, with your device or,
once you sign in, with your account, so you can open them on all your
devices. We also keep where you stopped reading each document and when
you last opened it. A document stays until you delete it or delete
your account.
When you add a file, we keep the file itself and its text. The text is
taken out of the file on our own server. Only pages that are scanned
images, with no text in them, are sent to Mistral AI (Paris, France)
for text recognition; Mistral returns the text and does not use it to
train its models. Nothing else from the file, and nothing about you,
is sent with them.
A document you delete disappears from SoundMyText at once. Its file,
its text and your reading position are erased from our server within
30 days.
Turning text into speech
To make audio, the text of a document is sent, one sentence at a time,
to the AI speech services we use: ElevenLabs and Google Cloud. They
process it only to return the audio to us, and they receive no name,
email address or device details with it. The audio is stored, so
playing it again costs nothing.
Your device
When SoundMyText starts for the first time it registers your device
with our server. We store a random install ID (kept in your system’s
keychain in the apps, and in your browser on the web), the platform,
and the IP address the device first and last connected from.
Every device gets free credits once. To keep it that way we also use:
in the apps for Android, macOS and Windows, the device’s hardware
ID, stored only as a salted hash that cannot be turned back into the
ID;
on the web, a browser fingerprint calculated in your browser by the
open-source FingerprintJS library, stored as a hash;
on iPhone and iPad, Apple’s DeviceCheck, which keeps two bits per
device for us and nothing that identifies you;
on Android, Google Play Integrity, which tells us whether the app
and the device are genuine.
The device record is kept after you delete your account, so the free
credits cannot be claimed again on the same device.
Signing in
Signing in is optional. With Google we keep your Google account ID,
name and email address. With Apple we keep your Apple account ID and,
only if Apple shares one, an email address; we also keep a token,
encrypted, that lets us revoke Sign in with Apple when you delete your
account. For every signed-in app or browser we keep a session: a
hashed sign-in token, its expiry, the IP address and the browser or
app name.
Credits and payments
We keep your balance: the credits each purchase or free grant gave,
and how many credits were used for which document.
Payments on the website and in the desktop apps downloaded from it are
handled by Stripe under its own privacy policy (stripe.com/privacy).
We never see card numbers. We keep the Stripe customer and
subscription IDs, the email address entered at checkout, the plan, its
status and its renewal date.
Purchases in the App Store, Google Play or the Microsoft Store are
handled by the store under its own privacy policy. We receive the
transaction or order ID, the product, the dates and the status, and
for the Microsoft Store an encrypted key we use to check renewals.
Purchases are linked to your device or account by a random token,
never by your name.
Hosting
Our server and our network provider (Cloudflare) process the technical
data needed to deliver SoundMyText and protect it, such as your IP
address, browser and the time of a request. This data is used only to
run and secure the service.
Analytics on the website
Only on the website’s own pages — the home page, this policy, the
Terms, Support and Licenses, never inside the app — we use Google
Analytics 4, a service of Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow
Street, Dublin 4, Ireland, to count visits and clicks. It runs only if
you choose “Accept” in the banner; until then it is not even loaded.
With your consent Google Analytics sets cookies on soundmytext.com
(_ga and _ga_…, kept for up to two years) and receives the pages you
open, the buttons you click, your browser, device and language, and
your approximate location. Google uses your IP address only to work
out that location and does not store it. Google may process the data
in the USA; Google LLC is certified under the EU–US Data Privacy
Framework. We keep analytics data for no longer than 14 months.
Cookies and browser storage
pfm_install and
pfm.install — recognise this browser as
your device. Necessary. 400 days.
pfm_refresh — keeps you signed in to the
web app. Necessary. 180 days.
pfm_oauth — protects Google and Apple
sign-in against forgery. Necessary. 10 minutes.
pfm.settings — your voice, speed, text
size and appearance. Necessary. Until you clear it.
pfm.site and
pfm.consent — the website’s language and
your cookie choice. Necessary. Until you clear them.
_ga, _ga_… — Google Analytics, only after
you accept. Up to two years.
Legal basis and your rights
We process your documents, device, account and payment data to provide
SoundMyText to you (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR), the device checks and hosting
data in our legitimate interest in preventing abuse and keeping the
service secure (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR), and analytics only with your
consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR, § 25(1) TDDDG), which you can withdraw at
any time under “Cookie settings”.
You have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction,
portability and objection, and to complain to a data protection
authority. You can delete any document in the app. Settings → Account
→ Delete account deletes your account, its documents, credits and
usage records, signs you out everywhere, revokes Sign in with Apple
and cancels subscriptions billed by Stripe; subscriptions in an app
store have to be cancelled in that store. For anything else, write to
us.
Changes and contact

kostet.
nicht zurückgewinnen lässt;
FingerprintJS in Ihrem Browser berechnet, gespeichert als Hash;
Gerät speichert und nichts, was Sie identifiziert;
speichert sie nicht. Google kann die Daten in den USA verarbeiten;
Google LLC ist nach dem EU-US Data Privacy Framework zertifiziert. Wir
bewahren Analysedaten höchstens 14 Monate auf.
Cookies und Browserspeicher
pfm_install und
pfm.install – erkennen diesen Browser
als Ihr Gerät. Erforderlich. 400 Tage.
pfm_refresh – hält Sie in der Web-App
angemeldet. Erforderlich. 180 Tage.
pfm_oauth – schützt die Anmeldung mit
Google und Apple vor Fälschung. Erforderlich. 10 Minuten.
pfm.settings – Stimme,
Geschwindigkeit, Textgröße und Darstellung. Erforderlich. Bis Sie es
löschen.
pfm.site und
pfm.consent – Sprache der Website und
Ihre Cookie-Auswahl. Erforderlich. Bis Sie sie löschen.
_ga, _ga_…
